• The WEY Coffee 01 and ORA FUNKY CAT models were named the safest vehicles in their categories by EURO NCAP in 2022.

Munich, January 12, 2023 - Two of the year's best vehicles are made in China: the WEY Coffee 01 plug-in SUV and the ORA FUNKY CAT all-electric compact car from Chinese vehicle manufacturer Great Wall Motor (GWM) received the "Best in Class" award from the European Vehicle Safety Association NCAP.

This rating is awarded each year to the cars that offer the highest accident protection for drivers, passengers and other road users within their segment with their basic equipment. The WEY Coffee 01 and the ORA FUNKY CAT won the desired awards thanks to their outstanding safety features. GWM earned this success through its "T-Safety" program: T-Safety focuses on vehicle safety from the very first development steps to the finished car.

For example, the safety of adults was rated at 91% and that of children at 87%. The many assistance systems with which WEY cars are equipped as standard make a significant contribution to this. They were given an excellent rating of 94%. The Coffee 01 is equipped with Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control (IACC), Traffic Jam Assist, Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB), Junction Assist for left turns, Blind Spot Detection (BSD), Door Open Warning (DOW), Lane Departure Warning (LDW) and Track-back reverse, among others.

Not only best in class for safety: WEY Coffee 01

Passive safety for vulnerable road users was also rated very highly (79%). Passive safety includes measures and systems that detect potentially critical situations and reduce or prevent injuries in the event of an accident.

In terms of pure electric range, the WEY Coffee 01 as a plug-in hybrid also offers more than the competition in its segment: up to 146 kilometers on one battery charge.

Safe, sustainable and plenty of comfort: ORA FUNKY CAT

Despite its compact dimensions, the all-electric ORA FUNKY CAT scores highly in terms of safety: 92% test score for adult protection, 83% for child accident safety and 74% for passive protection for other road users are outstanding values. In addition, there is an extensive basic equipment with assistance systems, which has been rated excellent with 94%.

The ORA FUNKY CAT comes standard with Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control (IACC), Traffic Jam Assist, Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) including Junction Assist for left turns, Blind Spot Detection (BSD) on both sides, Door Open Warning (DOW), Lane Departure Warning (LDW) as well as Traffic Sign Recognition System (TSR) and Driver Monitoring System (DMS).

The ORA FUNKY CAT is not only impressive in terms of safety, but also in terms of sustainability, comfort and design: The vehicle in retro-futuristic style is at least 95 percent recyclable and the infotainment system is easy and intuitive to operate thanks to artificial intelligence. The compact electric car with a range of up to 420 kilometers will be delivered in Europe from the beginning of 2023.
